As parents, in our stressing over their future, what school, what career they will have we lose sight of being in the present moment. The problem is that children can only see the now and pay little attention to even the next day, week, month so years away seems too inconceivable to comprehend. What this means is that we are not in the same ‘time-zone’ which makes Connecting with them difficult, even impossible and this is where the conflict arises. Developmentally, your child cannot see the ‘big picture’ or far ahead, so it leaves you the parent/adult with readjusting your focus.
